  • Family Ambystomatidae.
  • Common & AZTEC name for a salamander previously found in several lakes in the Valley of Mexico, but currently found only in Lake Xochimilco near Mexico City.
  • They can grow to 10 to 12 in long.
  • Best food in captivity is Insects and Larvae, such as Bloodworms
  • Not Picky about food, Quality Sinking Food or Pellets, (SERA� O-Nips).
  • Attains sexual maturity and reproduces in the larval stage.
  • Axolotls retain their gills and finned tails,throughout their lifetime.
